I found some time from goodness knows where to share my little valentines project for Ben with you guys. You might remember my WIP post from November – well I finally got around to finishing it!
I finished it off (at last!), printed it and put it in a little frame with a message on the back. I wil freely admit it’s not the most inspiring thing I have ever made but I quite liked that it was a bit rough around the edges.
I find valentine’s fairly tiring sometimes – seeing countless people posting their teddy bears holding hearts and huge bright pink cards makes me feel a bit sad. I like the sentiment of the day but it does feel like a lot of people trying to buy each other out. On that note I always try to make something by hand, still in keeping with remembering the people we love but without buying any of the commercially made stuff.
Sorry for the absence again lately – life always gets in the way, doesn’t it? I received a couple of commissions in the last month which have taken over my life. Hopefully I’ll be able to share them soon when they are released!
So, whilst I’m on here updating you about my 2013, it would make sense to mention what was probably my biggest achievement of the year. I was asked by my university (Cardiff University) to create an animation for them called “5 Reasons Students Love Cardiff”. You can watch it below.
Creating the animation was such a huge project for me, the first of anything like it that I have done. Here are a few of the stills from the production process.
The process was based on how I have animated in the past – creating and colouring in line drawings frame by frame in Photoshop. This meant I had to save almost every time I drew a line or coloured in a small section which did get quite frustrating. There must be an easier way!
Does any one else animate in this way or have any suggestions?
In an exciting turn of events I actually got asked to do another commission following on from a potential client seeing this video. This animation is now finished and I am hoping to share it with you as soon as it has been released by the company!
This is a short one from November of Ben and I, done at 3am and drawn after picking up my pen for the first time in months. Maybe I’ll finish it on another late night.
This is yet another interesting venture into a new style of illustration I have been developing a lot recently and one which you will probably see more of!
I spent the majority of last weekend enjoying the fabulous fireworks in Cardiff. It was the first opportunity I have taken to have a go at some ‘street’ photography, I’m usually terrified of people shouting at me for taking a picture without asking them – so here goes! Let me know what you think everyone!
Thanks for looking everyone, hope you have all had a lovely week!
Hello there lovely people of WordPress :]
Here are this weeks 365 photos. I am worried that some people are going to start finding this blog very repetitive so I am going to try and put up some more interesting posts over the next few weeks!
I have started using Instagram loads lately – I love it! It makes taking my daily photo so much easier. I think from now on you are going to find much more of a mix between my phone camera and my dslr.
Thanks for looking guys! I’m hoping to have something pretty cool for you soon!
Well, this has been hectic! I managed to delete the original Photoshop file of the second Red Riding Hood illustration and the technical genius of Ben hasn’t been able to retrieve it unfortunately… Thank god I saved a JPEG! So, here they are, not as great as I would have liked but here none-the-less!
Red Riding Hood One –
Red Riding Hood Two –
The Little Mermaid One –
The Little Mermaid Two –
Thanks for looking, hope you like them! nx
So my exam is on weds and I have two days off before because of bank holiday and inset days to work my socks off! Just a quick update of my transformed mermaid dancing, I’ve just finished her dress and I’m pretty pleased with it :] Later they’ll be on a background etc.
Lots to do but they’re getting there! nx
