Commissions Continue!

Hi everyone!

My summer has officially started now and so I’m going full steam ahead with my commission work which has been building up a bit in the last couple of months. Currently I am creating 2 animations for the university and also just finished designing an infographic style poster for a lovely lady called Kath at my university who runs a scheme called The Cardiff Award. It’s an employability award that I took part in this year and I luckily got the chance to create a poster for her to go to a conference with and help advertise.

The poster needed to fit in with the existing branding and be visually appealing & informative. As the first poster project I have done it was an interesting challenge. Have a look and see what you think!

This is one of my first experiences with large format (this is designed to be printed A0) so there was a bit of a learning curve! I decided to use Illustrator to make it because I was worried about the text becoming pixelated in Photoshop when it was blown up so huge and I think it went ok! I had to pay much more attention to the sizes of images than I usually do and pay extra careful attention to ensure nothing would look pixelated when it was finally printed.

Overall I’m happy with the result and I think Kath is too 🙂

For the next week I’ll be busy animating for the university, I’m doing two short videos for the Widening Access department for them to bring to schools and present to GCSE and  A Level pupils who may be thinking about university.

On top of that (!) I’m hoping to enter a competition being advertised by UCAS, which closes on 30th June – gulp, that is to produce a 30 second video about what you love your degree. I do Maths so I’m hoping to make something interesting out of it! I’ll post the video on here if I get round to entering 🙂

For now I need to run off – lots of work and very little time!

Birthday Designs!

Hi everyone!

I’ve just finished my second year exams – hooray! Last night we celebrated by going out for one of my best friends 21st birthdays – I decided to make him a birthday card 🙂

I’ve seen some lovely geometric patterns on Pinterest so decided to have a go at recreating some with a few little touches – I liked the idea of having the colour randomly spread around the circle and I’ve always liked strong geometric patterns combined with dainty ‘feminine’ type.

I was quite pleased with how it turned out! Thinking of playing around with the design a bit more to maybe get some more ideas going 🙂

happy birthday

That’s it for now folks – this summer I’m working but thinking of starting some more plasticine animation and starting up a Vimeo account and doing a few short animations – will keep you all updated!

Enjoy the lovely weather and I’ll chat to you all soon 🙂

Watching the Works

I spent the majority of last weekend enjoying the fabulous fireworks in Cardiff. It was the first opportunity I have taken to have a go at some ‘street’ photography, I’m usually terrified of people shouting at me for taking a picture without asking them – so here goes! Let me know what you think everyone!

Thanks for looking everyone, hope you have all had a lovely week!

A Few Changes To Be Made…

Hi everyone!

I’ve been thinking about my blog for awhile, knowing that I need to adapt it to my interests and what I am up to so I have decided to make a few changes.

Firstly, I am going to change this to a purely photographic blog. I intended it originally to be everything creative but to be honest, photography is slowly stealing my heart and I plan to follow it. Occasionally I might put up some drawings or artwork I have done but the main content will be my photos.

Secondly is the ‘issue’ of my 365. Some of my photos, I really don’t like. I don’t feel like I should be putting them up here where I only want to publicise my best work. Therefore, from now on I will just show you all what I want to show. I’ll keep links to my dA and my Flickr in the description page of the blog if you want to look into more of my work but I feel the best way to put myself out there is showing what I am proud of!

Sorry for writing so much – a bit of an admin post!

Following in this fashion, this is a photo from this week that I do particularly like :]

Day Ninety Five.

That is all for today – goodbye for now, but not for long!

Autumn – a fairy tale.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who kept the flowers bright and the birds singing in their trees. The villagers locked her in a castle so that they may never had to live without the song of the lark or the abundance of beautiful flowers and there she stayed for many years.

But the princess was unhappy in her tower, and one early morning, as the lark cried out its freedom, the princess escaped from her confinement and left the castle to wander the trees.

As she walked, the further she trod from the castle, she saw the leaves began to change in colour, falling softly to the floor around her. There were colours that the princess had never seen before, rich hues of blood and chestnut and aging.

The villagers began to rise for the day and one by one discovered the change to their world. Cold nipped at the hems of linen dresses and the wind tugged at their hair as a crowd gathered to watch the princess walk around the castle.

The princess felt as though a great sigh had been breathed by the forest, and tension ebbed away from the exhausted trees as they finally gave in to their long awaited slumbers.

The people looked around, and slowly, slowly, realised what had happened. Slowly, slowly, they saw what the princess saw. Their eyes feasted upon the deep reds and oranges all around them, and they realised that this was even more beautiful. More beautiful than anything they had tried to preserve.

And the princess smiled, and lay back on the sodden grass to look up at the falling leaves. She was free.
